Peter Gold said his resemblance to Patrick Stewart, who played Jean-Luc Picard in Star Trek on TV and film from 1987, meant that a science fiction theme was natural for his campaign.
Keeping with his technological theme, Mr Gold has created channels on YouTube and the social media site TikTok, and filmed a series of films which he broadly titled as 'Taking the P out of Politics! He held his official campaign launch at The Clarence public house in Plymouth Sutton and Devonport (PSD) last Friday, where he was dressed as Captain Picard but with a Reform UK badge added.
Among his more serious policies is a clear focus on local representation instead of following demands made by his party. He said his priority was "Think local, act local. We will not improve PSD from Westminster." Listing his six key policies, he said they were:
Safer streets for everyone.
Stop polluting our sea and rivers.
A centrally funded toll-free Tamar.
Military pay and housing they deserve.
