Sentencing the pair at Plymouth Crown Court, Judge Robert Linford said they were stopped by police on the A38 as they headed towards Plymouth on August 26, 2021. They were "vague and evasive" about where they were going and what they were up to.
Officers found sets of keys on them which, upon investigation by Plymouth's Proactive Policing Team, revealed two properties in Plymouth - Kingsley Road in Mutley and Warleigh Avenue in Keyham - which had been converted into "commercial cannabis growing operations."
At an earlier hearing the court was told that at each of the two properties officers found not only a large cannabis-growing operation but also a solitary male in each property.
Albanian immigrant Teslim Muhmutag, found at the Kingsley Road property was later jailed for seven months at Truro Crown Court. Adrian Kurmekaj, who was found in bed, was sentenced to 30 months in prison. During a previous hearing the prosecutor told the court that parts of a floor and ceiling between two flats were dismantled to allow the entire house to be given over to growing the plants, with a ladder linking the two.
