PLYMOUTH City Council is facing a budget shortfall of £24.5 million in the next five years.
In response, the authority has drawn up an action plan and is looking at how it can make savings and boost income from investments to fill the gap.
The council has been hit with a huge fall in central Government funding and an increase in demand for services such as adult social care and to tackle a homelessness crisis. It faces a projected budget shortfall of £11.2m in 2023/24 rising to £24.5m by 2027/28. Finance chief Cllr Mark Lowry said: “Our job over the next couple of years is to find ways to make these savings. It’s not easy, but that is the world we live in.”
