PLYMOUTH parents have raised concerns over videos circulating on social media showing children being beaten, causing them to be publicly humiliated.
Plymouth City Council’s education and children’s social care overview and scrutiny committee heard about parents’ concerns at their recent meeting.
Cllr Terri Beer (Ind, Plympton Erle) said parents were sending her videos of children getting very badly beaten outside schools and suffering the humiliation of it on social media.
She said: “We need to know is what has driven that young person to do such a thing, we have to look at the bigger picture.”
Fears were also expressed at the meeting that young people aren’t being educated about the dangers of child exploitation. Councillors asked committee officers what was being done to inform children under 11 about the dangers.
