THE couple running Plymouth's waterfront wine lounge and deli say building works next door caused a 20-month nightmare and a loss of £500,000.
Zoe and Fitz Spencer said the HonkyTonk Wine Library, at Sutton Harbour, saw custom drop sharply during construction of the nine-storey Harbour Arch Quay apartment block.
They remained open throughout the works but said customers stayed away because hoardings around the restaurant meant people thought they were closed.
Zoe and Fitz said, when the hoardings finally came down, it revealed extensive damage to the business's outdoor screened seating area. The couple, who opened their food and wine business in 2018, said they have been in talks with landlord Sutton Harbour Group (SHG) about compensation but are not confident any will be forthcoming. SHG has offered to appoint a carpenter to make repairs, but Zoe and Fitz have had a kind offer from two Plymouth firms - Scafftec Ltd and LCB Carpentry and Building - to carry out the work for free and would rather accept that.
