PLYMOUTH'S lost fishing jumper is being knitted once more, as part of a new project to teach people how to make them.
The traditional garment of the city's fishers up until the 1970s, the gansey is now on the Heritage Crafts red list of endangered crafts.
Ganseys had a specific pattern representing each fishing port and family created so a fisher could be identified by it if they lost their life at sea. The Plymouth iteration of the jumper, the 'Janner' gansey, was uncovered from research by The Conscious Sisters CIC (community interest company) at The Box, Plymouth.
