The 24-year-old was playing for Bath City in a home fixture against Dulwich Hamlet in November 2022 when he collided with an advertising board in the fifth minute.
The game had to be abandoned, and following his extensive brain trauma, Fletcher was rushed to Southmead Hospital in Bristol.
Fletcher underwent emergency neurosurgery, and doctors told his family and close friends his injuries were more similar to that a person would sustain in a motorcycle accident rather than a sports injury.
After spending a number of weeks in ICU in a critical condition, Fletcher started intense rehabilitation that included him learning to walk again.
Despite the severity of his brain injury, Fletcher made a miraculously quick recovery and was seen this week training with his Bath teammates at his former club Tiverton Town, where he was guest of honour for a pre-season friendly on Wednesday.
Fletcher was given a guard of honour by current and former teammates as well as speaking to fans at a question and answer session at halftime during the sides’ 2-2 draw.
The Argyle academy product admitted when the accident happened the first thing that went through his mind was whether he would ever get back on the pitch.
