AS the country prepares to mark the 80th Anniversary of D-Day in June, the Commonwealth War Graves Commission's (CWGC) torch of commemoration was in Plymouth on Monday with a ceremony designed to engage younger people and inspire them to play their part in marking the sacrifices of the fallen.
The event also coincided with the 70th Anniversary of the unveiling of the Second World War extension to the Memorial by the late Princess Margaret on 20th May 1954.
Alongside local dignitaries, serving military personnel, local students from Plymouth Military Preparation College for Training, D-Day veterans William (Bill) Johnston and Suzanne Sparrow, people from across the wider community in Plymouth came together to mark this momentous occasion.
