How heartbreak has inspired Laura to write and sing the blues

WORLD class Americana singer/songwriter Laura Evans pursued her career for several years in London and LA before settling in Plymouth – as a result of coming to a studio here to record her album State of Mind.

“I recorded my latest album at Momentum Studio on the recommendation of my manager,” explains Laura. Run by Josiah Manning, the studio is situated on the edge of town at Newnham, and is surrounded by gorgeous countryside.

“I just loved it there and working with Josiah was brilliant, we really hit it off: I loved the results of the music we made together in the countryside, away from the buzz and bustle of London.”

Good At Getting Over You, a single from the album co-written with Josiah is an example of their superb combined talents. A cracking tune with great hook and hard-hitting lyrics from the heart, it reached number 1 on the UK Blues chart accompanied by music video created by Kris Barras and attracted 10,000 views on the first day.

Laura might have returned to London after the album recording was complete, however while she was in Plymouth she kept popping into Sound Unlimited on Embankment Road, the only guitar shop in town, where she met owner Rich.
