Hundreds join march in protest at bridge tolls

CAMPAIGNERS CALL ON COUNCILLORS TO TAKE HEED

HUNDREDS of people marched over the Tamar Bridge on Saturday in a protest against its tolls.

Several speakers addressed the group who held rallies on both sides of the Tamar calling for a change on the funding of the crossings.

Campaigners say it is unfair that those living in South-East Cornwall who regularly cross the bridge for work or to access NHS services should be forced to pay.

The march was organised by the Tamar Toll Action Group alongside Cornish campaigning group All Under One Banner (AUOB) Kernow.

Organisers said they were making a "call to action" to local people to join in the peaceful protest.

A spokesman for the groups said: "Why do we have to pay to access vital NHS services? Do you pay hundreds of pounds a year to cross the Tamar? We say enough is enough!"
