Ivybridge remain top by beating Plymouth

IVYBRIDGE made light work of a seven-wicket win over Plymouth 2nd XI that kept them out in front of the rest at the top of the C Division West.

Plymouth were all out for 141 with more than three of their 45 overs unused. Arthur Johnson (3-31) had two of the Plymouth wickets to fall in a running total of 41 for four.

Jack Hughes (27) and captain Dan Rogers (30) staged their own fightback, but wickets for Lewis Clarke (2-12) and Adam Huxtable (2-17) left Plymouth little wriggle room.

Ivybridge lost wickets at 18, 52 and 106 on the way to preserving their unbeaten start to the season.

Harvey Johnson (54) was third out on 106, which left Zack Dunn (26no) and Cebo Tshiki (19no) to tie-up the loose ends early in the 24th over.

Ivybridge are three points clear of chasers Paignton 2nd XI at the top of the table. That will change this Saturday as the two sides meet at Queen’s Park in a first-against-second tussle.

YELVERTON won for only the second time this season when they defeated Cornwood 2nd XI by just one run.

Winning margins don’t come much closer than one run, although Cornwood are probably still wondering how they failed to make 200 to win?

The target was 18 to win from the last five overs with three wickets intact, including Andy Bees on 19 not out.

Losing Matt Puttock then Bees (20) in successive balls, left Cornwood’s last pair of Alex Shutt and Joe Davies to find 13 to win. They got down to the last over needing three more when Shutt was runout looking for a second run to level the scores.

Opener Mike Lemmings top-scored for Yelverton with 54. When he went Joe Trimmer (23) and Ben Grove (37) topped up the tally.

Forty-three extras helped Yelverton reach 199 all out in the 42nd over. Best of the bowling for Cornwood came from Shutt, who bagged five for 27 against his former teammates. Puttock bagged a brace.
