PLANS have been put forward to demolish the current Mecca Bingo centre in Devonport and replace it with what could be one of Plymouth's tallest buildings. A pre-application has been put forward that would see a 23-storey mixed-use building built on the corner of Fore Street.
Beckley Point in the city centre is currently the tallest building - the student flats block is 23-storeys high. But last year plans for a 30-storey, £50m skyscraper for Plymouth's waterfront which would tower over every other building in the city at Shepherds Wharf were mooted, although no application has yet been submitted.
The scheme for the Fore Street development would see commercial units provided on the ground and first floors, with living accommodation on the rest of the floors.
A statement with the pre-application says that the comprehensive development plan seeks to rejuvenate the area and stimulate economic growth while providing high-quality residential options for Plymouth's residents.
