18-year-old Michael Oppong Yeboah was reported missing after entering the water at East Hoe beach on Monday, March 18.
His mother has said in a heartbreaking tribute that she has ‘lost a great person’ and ‘will never forget’ him.
The University of Plymouth student has been described as ‘putting others’ happiness first’. His mum also said he always made ‘people happy with his funny little jokes’.
The last time he was seen, Michael went swimming at the Hoe, but did not return to shore.
A large-scale search was conducted, with Devon and Cornwall Police and the Coastguard searching the area near Tinside Lido.
On Wednesday, April 10, police were called to reports of a body in the water in the dockyard. Formal identification is yet to take place, but Michael’s family have been informed.
