Following widespread protests about the proposals and the length of time provided for feedback, the train operators are extending the time available for the public to respond.
People now have an additional five weeks to respond to the consultation reviewing how tickets are sold at stations across the UK.
It means passengers will now have until September 1 to complete the consultation, which they can do online on their local train company website, or by visiting www.transportfocus.org.uk or Londontravelwatch.org.uk
Plans to close ticket offices would see the axe fall on Plymouth and the loss of more than 40% of its staff, according to leaked figures. Train operators say they have listened to feedback about the consultation and hope that more people will have the opportunity to have their say on the proposals.
