Plymouth College celebrates its 15 Olympic superstars

PLYMOUTH College is among the top three schools in the country with the highest number of alumni competing for Great Britain at the Olympics this summer.

The school, in Ford Park, is a day and boarding school for pupils aged three to 18.

The other two are also private schools - Millfield School in Somerset and Whitgift School in South Croydon in London.

All three have alumni at the Paris Games who received scholarships and bursaries to attend the independent schools.

Before the Paris Olympics started, the College posted the following rousing words of encouragement on its social media Facebook page: "Best of luck to our incredible 15 athletes competing at the Olympics across three disciplines, swimming, diving and modern pentathlon!

"We're beyond proud to support our pupils and alumni, especially OPMs (former pupils) Honey Osrin, Dr Kerenza Bryson and current pupil Chad Ning making their Olympic debuts.

"This wonderful achievement showcases the strength of our dedicated High Performance Sports Programme! "At Plymouth College, we have a proud tradition of supporting pupils and their Olympic journeys.

"Did you know, that in the 2012 Olympics, with four Plymouth College athletes competing, we would have ranked 49th in the medals table if we were a country, outperforming 155 other nations! What will the 2024 Olympics bring for Plymouth College independent school? "Stay tuned to find out..."

The 15 Plymouth College alumni stars competing at this year's Olympics are:

TEAM GB:

1. Tom Daley, 30

Silver, Diving Men's Synchronized 10m Platform Tom was one of the flagbearers for the Paris Olympic Games Opening Ceremony.

In a message to Tom on Facebook the school says:

"Huge congratulations to OPM, the incredible Tom Daley, for winning Silver at the Paris Olympics!
