THE exhilarating musical 42nd Street has toetapped its way to Theatre Royal Plymouth in a blaze of light and colour as bright as the 1930s Broadway in which it is set.
The production, running for a week in Britain’s Ocean City, does its best to blow away the clouds of economic woe, and rain, just as its Hollywood movie forebear did in 1933.
The rags to riches story of young hoofer Peggy Sawyer – a show-stealing performance by NicoleLily Baisden – who arrives in New York from Allentown, Pennsylvania, with hopes of making it big on The Great White Way, 42nd Street is a riot of song and dance, and no little drama.
