WITH a new football season just around the corner, parents up and down the country are bracing themselves for another expensive commodity that their offspring will be wanting this summer, along with a bottle of Prime, of course: the latest kit of their preferred football team

It is not uncommon to see supporters at football grounds decked out in their club colours as they proudly sport the latest shirt, but there is no denying that this football fashion accessory is becoming more and more expensive. And it seems the bigger club you support, the more you have to pay.

On Tuesday, Manchester United unveiled their latest number. Love them or loathe them, there is also no denying that the Red Devils have gone from being England’s most famous football club’s to one of the world’s leading sports brands where the love and care for supporters has been replaced by a ruthless exploitation of their customers.

United’s more loyal supporters have certainly been vocal in their opposition to the Glazer family ownership of their club, which has reached a head in recent weeks with a potential takeover. It is obvious that, despite strong interest from two parties – Jim Ratcliffe’s Ineos group and the Qatari bid, led by Sheikh Jassim – the Glazers are holding out for as much money as they can get from the sale.
