Vintage streetwear shop rails against fast fashion

Rebecca Bosher, aged 21, has opened SW Streetwear on the corner of Beaumont Road and Durham Avenue, in a corner unit which formerly boasted an electrical appliance repair shop.

Ms Bosher has just finished a degree at Falmouth University in Music, Theatre and Entertainment Management, but has reconsidered an ambition to be a music producer after the Covid pandemic.

Having sold clothes online to bring in some extra money through lockdown, she decided to turn the venture into a full-time occupation.

Together with her partner, she has restored the shop with simple chipboard counters and a Chesterfield sofa to stock and sell everything from vintage T-shirts to designer caps and niche trainers.

She offers a mixture of second-hand and brand-new clothing, but keeps prices to a minimum and believes the online side of the business will still be the major revenue driver.

“I was going to go into the whole creative fields but this just popped up over lockdown,” she said.

“We kept selling our old clothes and it just kept getting busier and busier and it made sense to use what I had learned doing that degree in terms of the marketing and turn that into this.”
