Waine at the double to send Argyle into round two

SCHUMACHER DELIGHTED TO KEEP THE WINNING MOMENTUM GOING AT HOME

STEVEN Schumacher believes Ben Waine will take a lot of confidence from getting both Plymouth Argyle goals in their 2-0 Carabao Cup first round win against Leyton Orient.

It was the first time the New Zealand international striker had scored at Home Park since joining the Pilgrims from Wellington Phoenix in January.

His only previous goals for Argyle had been away to Bristol Rovers in an EFL Trophy quarter-final and at Morecambe in a dramatic comefrom-behind 3-2 League One win in April.

Waine opened the scoring against Orient in the 25th minute with a low finish from inside the box, while his second later in the first half saw the ball hit him on the shoulder after a deflected cross from 17-year-old Fred die Issaka and bounce into the net.

Schumacher said: "I'm obviously pleased to be in the second round. That was the main objective to keep that winning habit going.

"I thought the performance was really good, especially first half. We played some excellent football, we looked dangerous and we showed our quality.

"We scored two really good goals, probably should have had a couple more. That might have been the only criticism of the first half.

"Then second half credit to Leyton Orient they came after us a little bit more, had nothing to lose, and we were a bit scruffy. The substitutions and all that didn't help but, all in all, a really pleasing night and loads and loads of positives from it." Waine started in attack for Argyle as one of 10 changes from the 3-1 Championship season-opening win against Huddersfield Town on Saturday, with Ryan Hardie on the bench instead.

Schumacher said: "I'm really pleased for Ben. That's his first goals at Home Park. He has been here since January, he works so hard every day in training.
