IT had been a season of second finishes. It ended with one. The final night of the season had its trepidation as well. The Brussels Diamond League final was his last meet before winding up a long season that was interspersed with the grandest multi-discipline event the Olympics.
Before the beginning of the season, Neeraj Chopra had said that the Olympics would be his priority. He won silver despite fouling five of his six throws behind Arshad Nadeem with a throw of 89.45m. That was his personal best of the season before improving it at Lausanne two weeks later to 89.49m.
For a man who has set a gold standard for consistency, Neeraj's series of throws this season has been a little off the mark. He began the season with 88.36m in Doha, followed by 85.97m at the Paavo Nurmi Games in Turku before peaking at the Olympics in Paris. Ideally, he was planning to compete in at least four events before the Paris Games, but due to a chronic groin injury, he did not want to risk it.
