Yatnal should quit as MLA, says Lingayat Samaj

MEMBERS of the Lingayat Samaj of Mahantesh Nagar in Belagavi staged a protest to demand disqualification of Vijaypura BJP MLA Basanagouda Patil Yatnal from the Assembly for controversial remarks against 12th-century social reformer Basaveshwara.

Yatnal had said that, "Lord Basavanna jumped into the river to die as it was the only choice for him", which went viral on social media. Several leaders and seers from the Lingayat Samaj gathered at Rani Channamma Circle in Belagavi on Saturday to condemn his statement. They shouted slogans against Yatnal during their protest rally from Rani Channamma Circle to the Deputy Commissioner's office, demanding action against him.
