N THE evening, the Kalolsavam gets an ethereal aura. This time, too, it wasn't different. The inaugural day was searing, with the main venue resembling a dusty rustic path in the morning as the event was kicked off by the Chief Minister with a special dance by the Chooralmala team. But by evening, the area got sobered down with a mildly overcast sky giving an entrancing feel to the whole atmosphere.

The venue was also preparing itself for the gala show of every Kalolsavam, which is often scheduled towards the end of the day so that the working public can catch up with the HSS 'sanghanritham' or group dance, which in itself has seen several improvisations over the years yet remains a hot favourite.

This year's saw an array of topics and some exquisite themes presented with deftness by students, who we later found out, had even skipped several of their Plus Two classes to prepare for the event for months on end. But some did not get that luxury, as their appeal came through just weeks before, and had to put together their show by investing 10 hours or more in practice. The Kozhikode team from St Joseph's Anglo-Indian GHSS is one such.
