Addressing reporters at the Annamalai University guest house on Tuesday morning, Sinthanai Selvan, general secretary of the Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) and MLA of Katumannarkovil constituency, said, "The Tamil Nadu government must declare Katumannarkovil as a flood-affected area and provide relief to the affected people and full compensation to farmers."

He noted that on December 12, unexpected heavy rainfall in Cuddalore, Ariyalur and Perambalur districts submerged villages in Katumannarkovil and Thirumuttam revenue divisions. "Most of the villages were submerged, and paddy fields along with other crops were completely destroyed. Village roads have also been damaged," he said.
