AFTER days of speculations, BCCI secretary Jay Shah has been elected unopposed for the top post of the global cricketing body on Tuesday. Ever since the current International Cricket Council chair Greg Barclay announced that he will not be seeking a third term, there were indications that the BCCI secretary would be elevated to the post. On Tuesday, Shah remained the sole name supported by all ICC directors. At 35, he will become the youngest to head the ICC when he assumes office in December.

Currently the BCCI-appointed ICC director and the chairperson of the ICC's Finance and Commercial Affairs sub-committee, Shah will have to relinquish his other responsibilities, including the post of the BCCI secretary and Asian Cricket Council head when he takes charge. "I extend my heartfelt gratitude to ICC's Member Boards for placing their trust in me to take over this prestigious role of the Chairman of the ICC.
