AS UK PREPARES FOR RED HOT WEATHER, PM PLANS PARTY

Whitehall Correspondent BORIS Johnson has gone AWOL on duty again - leaving his crew to handle the heatwave crisis as he parties.

The outgoing PM will host a farewell shindig at Chequers today.

Yesterday, he missed a vital meeting of the emergency COBRA committee, called to prepare for this week's 41C heatwave.

Cabinet Office Minister Kit Malthouse was left to chair that while Mr Johnson was looking forward to relaxing at his grace-and favour country house which, handily in soaring temperatures, has a pool.

Ironically, the PM's lack of action came as a picture showed him in Top Gun gear during a visit to RAF Coningsby, Lincs, on Thursday. Labour deputy leader Angela Rayner stormed last night: "Boris Johnson has gone missing in action again.
