TESCO champagne has beaten a top brand costing nearly twice as much in a Christmas taste challenge.

Its Finest Premier Cru Brut, costing £25, was awarded a score of 82%, by Which?.

Judges praised the bubbly's "inviting nutty aroma and fresh, fruity flavours".

Also rated as best buys were Aldi's Veuve Monsigny Premier Cru Brut (£22) and Waitrose Brut NV (£25), both scoring 80%.
