UK enjoys knockout temperatures in heatwave

BRITAIN put Greece in the shade this weekend, recording roasting temperatures of up to 24C.

A plume of hot air from North Africa drove up the mercury as the Greek islands of Crete and Rhodes only managed 23C.

Temperatures could hit 25C on Tuesday - but forecasters have warned that the muggy heat could cause the occasional thunderstorm.

The Met Office's Aidan McGivern said: “This plume does bring the threat of thundery outbreaks.
