GIBBS-WHITE 70

FOREST fans were still chanting Morgan Gibbs-White's name long after Southampton supporters had walked away from a party that turned sour.

The Forest midfielder - so often his club's driving force and inspiration - struck the only goal of the game in the 70th minute.

It was enough to give Forest, dominant throughout, a deserved win over a surprisingly lacklustre Southampton, whose players lacked energy and verve.

Forest had already missed several chances before Gibbs-White took a second bite at a cross from Callum Hudson-Odoi.

Both Hudson-Odoi himself and the tricky Anthony Elanga might have extended Forest's lead late on, but Saints keeper Alex McCarthy kept his team in it.
