THE new queen of SW19 already has more tattoos than your average navy midshipman – but this was a crest of a wave worthy of a permanent reminder.
After indelibly inking her name into the Wimbledon record books with a history-making win yesterday, Marketa Vondrousova revealed that she will be getting a new tattoo to celebrate.
And that her poor coach, Jan Mertl, is going to have to get one as well.
After all, a bet's a bet.
The Czech star had wagered Mertl that if she ever won a Grand Slam event he would have to get some body art.
And on the eve of her first wedding anniversary she did just that, beating Ons Jabeur 6-4 6-4 to become the first unseeded women's winner here at the All England Club.
Vondrousova's husband, Stepan, will no doubt accompany them to the tattoo parlour, having had to spend most of these Championships at home looking after the couple's cat.
