UNITE boss Sharon Graham has urged Labour to slap a 1% tax on the wealthiest instead of "pickpocketing" pensioners.
She said Keir Starmer must ditch plans to cut the winter fuel allowance for 10 million older people.
Instead, Ms Graham claims a 1% tax on the top 1% in society could raise around £25billion a year. That would exceed the £22bn black hole left in the nation's finances by the ravages of 14 years of Tory rule.
She said: "We've got a situation with pensioners being pickpocketed. At the same time, you have the 50 richest families in Britain worth £500bn.
"That's the same amount that half of Britain is worth."
