FRESH warnings for snow and ice have been issued as the cold snap continues.

Temperatures were due to plunge to -12C in parts of the country last night after a low of -11C was recorded in Aviemore, in the Scottish Highlands, on Friday.

Dozens of weekend flights and sports fixtures were cancelled and travellers were warned to expect delays on the roads and rail.

Yesterday, snow fell on Blackpool's famous promenade and the North Yorkshire Moors and the North Downs in Kent also turned white, while the Bridgewater Canal in Manchester froze over.

The Met Office yesterday! issued a yellow warning for snow and ice until Sunday lunchtime covering much of the North, the Midlands, Yorkshire and Wales.

Some places could see up to 10cm of snow on higher ground.
