Thousands say farewell to Gorbachev

MOURNERS turned out in their thousands for former leader Mikhail Gorbachev’s Moscow funeral yesterday.

A river of people – many clutching red roses and carnations – flowed past the open coffin of the man who ended the Cold War.

Russian President Vladimir Putin – who refused the 91-year-old a state funeral – did not attend, citing his “work schedule”.
