He was welcomed in the party by AAP national convener and CM Arvind Kejriwal and his deputy Manish Sisodia, at the Jan Samvaad&rsquo; programme, held in Paharganj, ahead of the municipal polls. Kejriwal presented him with a party&rsquo;s cap and patka&rsquo; stole) while inducting him.
An ex-serviceman, Mishra was elected to MCD in 1997 ona Congress ticket and won his first assembly election in 1998 from the erstwhile Nasirpur constituency in west Delhi and repeated the feat in 2003 and 2008 from Dwarka). He was elected to the Lok Sabha in 2009 from West Delhi, but lost the 2014 polls. He enjoyed the support of Poorvanchali voters in all his elections that he won.
In 2015, Mishra unsuccessfully contested the Delhi assembly polls against, but lost and, later, lost the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. Mishra&rsquo;s son, Vinay, had contested the 2013 Delhi assembly election on a Congress ticket, but lost. He joined AAP against his father&rsquo;s wishes in January 2020 and won the assembly election from Dwarkaa month later.

We welcome him with open hearts.&rdquo; Sisodia said Mishra&rsquo;s presence will strengthen AAP's resolve to provide world-class education-healthcare&rdquo; to every section of society and make Delhi neat and clean.
