Hundreds thronged the Necklace Road to witness India's first street motor racing spectacle on the banks of picturesque Hussain Sagar in the heart of Hyderabad on Saturday. The Formula 3 cars, decked up in different fluorescent colours, vroomed the circuit offering a visual treat to the Hyderabadis in the first leg of the Indian Racing League. The next two rounds will be held in Chennai and the final will be held on the same circuit here.
While only those who had tickets were allowed inside the galleries, several residents viewed the race from a distance at PVNR Marg.&nbsp;Commuters atop Telugu Talli flyover captured videos of the street circuit racing with an even better view than the 749 or 1,249 ticket holders could get. An even better view was available for employees of BRK Bhavan, who took to their terrace to watch the show.

"There is a lot of adrenaline rush for even those watching the game in person. It was a first-time experience for me and it certainly piqued my interest to google all about motorsports," B Vaishnavi, a student of Nizam's Arts College student present at the event told STOI.
Interestingly, the IRL also saw spectators coming from other states as well. "I have been following motorsports like Formula 1 and MotoGP since my childhood days.&nbsp;When I heard India's first street circuit racing is happening in Hyderabad, I decided that it was a perfect weekend getaway for me," Roy Thomas, a resident of Trivandrum said.

The race lasted for about 20 minutes on the 2.7-km circuit from the time MA&amp;UD minister KT Rama Rao flagged off the event. Later, Rao along with his son Himanshu joined the VIP gallery near IMAX to watch the programme. "The energy at the circuit was exuberant and it was truly impressive to witness these magnificent speed machines perform," Rao tweeted.
Across the seven galleries, a total of 7,500 people turned up to watch the race with many of them availing of the two-day pass to witness the second round of the race that would take place on Sunday as well. The IRL is a precursor for the February's Formula E race, an international event that would attract participants across the world of racing.
