<p><strong>Hyderabad:&nbsp;</strong>The Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) has come in for sharp criticism from locals for allegedly filling up Rangadhamuni Cheruvu, popularly known as IDL lake, in Kukatpally. HMDA officials, however, said they were only strengthening the lake bund.</p>

<p id="2">The irrigation department is yet to issue an NOC for the works to be taken up, sources said.</p>
<p id="3">Abdul Masood, a resident of Moosapet, said: &ldquo;At least 10 feet of the lake was filled up with mud. Though the intention is good to develop a mini tank bund, the authorities are pushing the lake inside and creating land in the name of strengthening the bund. Due to this, the full tank level has gone inside.&rdquo;</p>

<p id="2">While the GHMC lakes divison has objected to the alleged filling up of the lake and works taken up without securing the NOC, residents confirmed that the lake is being filled up at a fast clip. Mohammed Jahangir, a stall owner of Gajularamaram, said: &ldquo;At least 200 stall owners lost their livelihood as the stalls near the lake have been dismantled. Yet, the authorities are filing up the lake.&rdquo;</p>

<p id="2">HMDA executive engineer P Padma said they were merely beautifying the lake bund. &ldquo;We are not filling up the lake with mud. We are just strenghthening the bund. No rules have been violated. We are going to provide 70 food stalls later. No NOC is required for beautification of the bund,&rdquo; said Padma.</p>

<p id="2">HMDA, GHMC and police authorities removed several illegal food stalls on the lake bund to facilitate the development works.</p>
<p id="3">Padma said they took up lake front development. &ldquo;We are strengthening the main bund by providing revetment, hand railing on lake side and construction of slant walls on road side on the other. We are providing pathways with paver blocks, cobble stones and granite flooring on main bund. We are setting up a food court, children play area and necessary amenities,&rdquo; she said.</p>
<p id="4">Apart from bund beautification, development of walkways, landscaping and seating arrangements will also be taken up at the lake.</p>
