Popularly called the Kaanta Laga girl, after bit roles in films, Shefali did a dance reality show, Nach Baliye with her present husband of seven years, actor Parag Tyagi. In Chandigarh for Chandigarh Times Fashion Week, she spoke to us about why she has stayed away from Hindi television.&nbsp;
You were one of the most memorable faces of a music video in&nbsp;Kaanta Laga. Why didn&rsquo;t you pursue music videos or even TV? 
Well, I am doing web now, though not mainstream Hindi television. I have been approached so often for music videos, especially in Punjabi, but songs was not on my agenda and they still aren&rsquo;t. My focus shifted towards acting, even though dancing will always be my first love. The opportunties as an actor that I am getting on the web, are phenomenal. There are very few roles that come your way to make you grow as a performer, refine your craft, and the web has given me that. Fortunately, audiences also accept artistes on web more readily than other mass mediums.&nbsp;
How is it that you stayed away from TV so far, despite three dance reality shows?&nbsp;
TV has a huge audience, that&rsquo;s why it is surviving. But I don&rsquo;t see myself in that zone wearing a saree and playing the ideal&nbsp;bahu, right now. In real life I am a doting wife, but my reality doesn&rsquo;t help me improve my craft. That is why I don&rsquo;t want to play that on screen. I would rather do something away from the comfort of my real persona, so that I get challenged. I am happy to do diverse characters.
How does Parag contribute to your on-screen journey?&nbsp;
It was because of Parag that I took up acting seriously. He recognised the monotony that was seeping into my life even before I saw it. He told me that you are growing as a person, and you should evolve as an artiste too. He is such a good artiste that you will be amazed at how good a person he is in realilty, when you see him as a bad boy on screen. He is doing films currently but is in love with TV and won&rsquo;t ever quit that medium.&nbsp;
Considering you have taken the route less travelled into being an actor, you first got married and then turned to acting, do you feel women are breaking that stereotype now?&nbsp;
There is definitely a deconstruction of the stereotype of an actress in the industry, all thanks to actresses like Kareena Kapoor, Kajol, Deepika, etc. They have realised that marriage cannot confine or limit an actress. We are not there yet, but there is immense progress.
