Hyderabad: Expelled senior Congress leader Marri Shashidhar Reddy joined the BJP at its headquarters in New Delhi on Friday in the presence of Union ministers G Kishan Reddy and Sarbananda Sonowal. He also met BJP national president JP Nadda later in the day.
The formal entry into the saffron party comes a week after meeting Union home minister Amit Shah and being expelled by Congress for six years.
He subsequently resigned from the Congress after launching a scathing attack on the grand old party.
The Congress veteran, who is the son of former AP CM Marri Channa Reddy, was a four-time Congress MLA and also served as vice chairman of NDMA.
Talking to media on Friday, Shashidhar said BJP was the only party capable of taking on the TRS in Telangana.

Vowing to dethrone the TRS, he said: &ldquo;TRS is the most corrupt party in the world. In the last eight years, Congress could not fight the ruling party. I never thought such a moment would come in my life that I would leave&nbsp;Congress. But I have joined this mission of the BJP to bring &lsquo;Telangana first policy&rsquo; in the state instead of &lsquo;TRS family first&rsquo;.&rdquo;
Accusing the TRS of ignoring public welfare and serving the interests of only one family, Shashidhar said the pink party government had dashed people&rsquo;s hopes of good governance despite being voted twice to power.
&ldquo;Telangana fought for&nbsp;statehood for decades, but even after formation of the state the people have not benefitted. The time has come to fight the TRS. I will do my part as a BJP worker,&rdquo; he said.
Union minister Kishan Reddy also hit out at TRS and said: &ldquo;The TRS is making mistakes everyday. The people of Telangana will teach them a lesson when the time comes.&rdquo;
