<p id="1"><strong>Hyderabad: </strong>It was not just Tollywood actress, <strong>Jeevitha</strong>,&nbsp;who fell victim to conman Nagendra Babu&rsquo;s devious designs, investigations by cybercrime police revealed he had duped a Tollywood director and mopped up ₹60,000.</p>
<p id="4">Babu, who has friends linked to the film industry, created a database of mobile numbers of film personalities, who became his targets.</p>
<p id="5">A year ago, after the release of a Telugu movie with a popular cast, Babu contacted the film director and introduced himself as Naveen Kumar, a top official with the Directorate of Film Festivals. After lauding the film, he offered to help him win at least six cinema awards by influencing the jury.</p>

<p id="6">&ldquo;Babu offered a deal. He sought ₹10,000 for each award under different categories. And the director in fact coughed up ₹60,000 with a hope of buying recognition. Later, the accused became inaccessible,&rdquo; a cybercrime police officer told&nbsp;<strong>TOI</strong>. He resumed his con job after coming out of prison on bail. Babu&rsquo;s tryst with crime began in 2016, when he dupe many with a promise of providing fancy mobile numbers. Andhra Pradesh police had then booked him in three cases.</p>

<p id="2">A fortnight ago, he duped actress, Jeevitha, by promising her high-end mobile at 50% discount by claiming to be an employee with a retail store. He convinced her to cough up ₹1.2 lakh. When Babu switched off his phone after receiving payment, a complaint was lodged and the conman is behind bars again.</p>
