Eight of these 10 samples—including two from Mumbai—tested negative for monkeypox, but results of two are awaited, said state public health officials.
One of these two suspects is a 30-year-old man from West Bengal who was admitted to Civil Hospital, Ahmednagar, on Thursday with fever, headache and rash. His condition is stable, officials said. The man has no history of foreign travel.
“We have sent the man's clinical samples—skin scrapings, blister fluid, urine, blood sample and nasopharyngeal swab—to the National Institute of Virology (NIV) in Pune to rule out the monkeypox virus infection,” Ahmednagar civil surgeon Dr Sanjay Ghogare told TOI on Thursday.
BMC officials told media-persons in Mumbai on Thursday that the city suspects, who were referred for testing by private doctors in the past 15 days, were found to be suffering from chickenpox and hand-foot-and-mouth disease.
