<p id="1"><strong>Shanghai: </strong>In a rare outpouring of public anger against the state, hundreds of people took to the streets in Shanghai and Beijing Sunday to protest China&rsquo;s strict Covid curbs, calling for the removal of Xi Jinping, the country&rsquo;s all-powerful leader, and an end to Chinese Communist Party&rsquo;s rule.</p>
<p id="2">Police in Shanghai forcibly cleared the demonstrators, but hours later people rallied again in the same spot. Protesters said multiple people were taken away in vans.</p>
<p id="4">Social media reports indicated protests spread to at least six other cities and dozens of university campuses, including Tsinghua University in Beijing, one of China&rsquo;s top colleges. A crowdsourced list on social media showed there were demonstrations at 50 universities.</p>
