The recently announced-Foreign Medical Graduate Exam (FMGE) results for 2022, for foreign medical graduates, recorded the worst results with only a 10% of pass percentage. Around 22,000 students appeared in the exam held in June 2022. Of these only 2,346 managed to qualify. The exam is conducted to screen foreign medical students and give them a license to practice in India.
In June 2020, the pass percentage was as low as 9.53%. The numbers improved in December 2021 when the pass percentage shot up to around 23%.
Highlighting the major loophole existing in the FMGE, Dr Ashish Kumar, faculty, NEXT Learning Center, says, “While, the paper held in June was not satisfactory and according to the preparation plan of the students, the major flaw that exists in the exam for the foreign medical graduates is transparency. The answer key is announced for NEET, but the National Board of Examinations (NBE) does not reveal the answer key and the question paper for the FMGE aspirants. Hence the students never get to understand why they failed.”
