<p>Thakur was reacting to the recent controversy over Om Raut&rsquo;s &lsquo;Adipurush&rsquo;, starring Prabhas and Kriti Sanon, a film that retells the story of the epic Ramayana.</p>

<p id="3">Thakur said it has often been seen that controversies occur before the release of films, and nothing comes out of them when one watches the movies. &ldquo;We need to understand why these controversies take place&hellip; I can give a lot of examples... One must think about it,&rdquo; he said, adding that there are &ldquo;many films and many controversies around them, but even without editing when they were shown, nothing happened&rdquo;.</p>
<p id="4">The minister, however, added that one must consider how one reads history and represents it.</p>
<p id="5">&ldquo;Itihaas ko dekhkar kese prastut karte hain, ye sochne ki avashyakta hai (How one sees and then presents history, that has to be thought upon),&rdquo; Thakur said.</p>
<p id="6">Laying emphasis on the soft power of films, and India&rsquo;s status as the world&rsquo;s largest producer of films, Thakur said movies help tell the world about India&rsquo;s culture and history. He said Indian cinema is expected to become a $100 billion industry by 2030, adding that this presented a &ldquo;great opportunity&rdquo; to India in the areas of film shooting, co-production, and post-production since the country has the right talent.</p>

<p id="1">Thakur also defended the government&rsquo;s decision to mandate that all channels run 30 minutes&rsquo; worth of programming in &ldquo;national interest&rdquo;, saying this should be a part of every company&rsquo;s corporate social responsibility and should not be seen as difficult for channels to deliver. &ldquo;The government is not telling channels what to run or when. We don&rsquo;t regulate and, in fact, we believe in letting media platforms self-regulate. In emergency situations, for instance, it should be the responsibility of the media to inform its audiences. Many channels are already doing this. Those that aren&rsquo;t will now follow suit,&rdquo; he said.</p>
