Temporary bail for Guj ex-DGP Sreekumar
The Gujarat high court granted Wednesday temporary bail toformer DGP RB Sreekumar till November 15 and permitted him to file fresh application for regular bail before the trial court in connection with charges of fabrication of evidence tied to the 2002 riots.
Sreekumar has been in custody since June 25 after Ahmedabad police filed an FIR against him along with social activist Teesta Setalvad and ex-IPS officer Sanjiv Bhatt. A trial court refused him bail and he approached HC.
After SIT filed the charge-sheet in the case, Sreekumar’s lawyer proposed to withdraw his application for regular bail and to approach the trial court. Justice Ilesh Vora permitted him to withdraw the application. Sreekumar’s counsel YN Ravani urged HC to release him on bail temporarily looking at his old age.
