Washington: Trolling the very company he is buying, Tesla CEO Elon Musk has held out an assurance that Twitter will not become “a free-for-all hellscape where anything can be said with no consequences,” asserting he was acquiring it not to make money but to promote healthy debate.
“The reason I acquired Twitter is because it is important to the future of civilisation to have a common digital town square, where a wide range of beliefs can be debated in a healthy manner, without resorting to violence,” Musk said on Thursday. The message came hours after he walked into the Twitter HQ carrying a kitchen sink and tweeting “let that sink in”. He also changed his Twitter profile to refer to himself as “Chief Twit”, amid expectation that he will fire over half of the social media platform’s 7,500 staff, including two Indian principals at the top — CEO Parag Agrawal and its legal head Vijaya Gadde.
