Buckingham Palace has not taken a decision on whether Camilla, the queen consort, will wear the consort crown, which holds the priceless Kohinoor diamond, at her coronation next May. The Queen Mother's crown was made in 1937 when she was Queen Elizabeth, consort of King George VI. It holds the 105.6-carat Kohinoor diamond in a detachable platinum mount.
The diamond was taken as war booty after the defeat of the Sikhs in the Second Anglo-Sikh war in 1849 and was presented to Queen Victoria by Lord Dalhousie. After Queen Victoria died in 1901, the Kohinoor was set in the crown of Queen Alexandra and then transferred to the crown of Queen Mary in 1911, and finally reset in the crown of the Queen Mother in 1937 for her coronation as consort.
There is a legend that the diamond brings bad luck so it is never worn by the king.
