New Delhi: Lieutenant governor VK Saxena, who had visited the stretch on the day he assumed charge a few months ago, had played an active role in developing a comprehensive beautification plan for the area, according to sources. The LG is personally monitoring the project&rsquo;s weekly progress, they added. Sources said Saxena visits the redevelopment site nearly every Sunday and has undertaken a spot check on 19 different occasions to take stock of the progress.
PWD, which is executing the work, plans to add aesthetics to the stretch by way of uniform colour patterns on&nbsp;flyovers and foot overbridges. There will also be a horticultural overhaul, with flowering plants of different colours and heights in the works.
The area will see regular cleaning, removal of encroachments and symmetric installation of fountains. These are in different stages of completion, officials said. In steps that would effect long-term landscape changes, eight lion statues will&nbsp;be installed. Six of these will be six feet high, made of white marble, weigh around two tonnes each while two will be giant-sized and made of black stone.

To improve the travel experience of commuters, 15 fountains &ndash; each 11 feet high &ndash; will be installed at several junctions, including the stretch from Aerocity to T3, Dwarka and other areas.
&ldquo;We have completed&nbsp;some works in record time, like covering open drains, repairing pavements and dividers as well as putting 30,000 seasonal flowering plants in place,&rdquo; said a source in Raj Niwas.
Apart from this, the flyovers will be painted in a new red-and-white colour scheme, which will replace black and white. This has been approved by the Central Road Research Institute. There will&nbsp;also be logos of &lsquo;charkha&rsquo; and &lsquo;Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav&rsquo; at various locations.
The revamp of the key stretch near the airport has begun well in advance before next year&rsquo;s G20 summit, which will be hosted by India. The beautification work is expected to give a pleasant experience to not only domestic tourists, but visiting officials, delegations and heads of governments as well.
