After straddling in the Blue and Gold for 13 long years, during which he pulled off many stunning heists with his explosive batting and athletic fielding and playing an integral role in their five title triumphs, MI &lsquo;great&rsquo; Pollard has finally called time on his IPL career.
That he played 189 games for MI &ndash; the maximum by a foreigner in the league&rsquo;s history &ndash; bears testimony to the kind of faith MI had in him. Many of Pollard&rsquo;s special, match-turning knocks had come at MI&rsquo;s &lsquo;home,&rsquo; the Wankhede Stadium,&nbsp;where a charged-up crowd would chant &lsquo;Pollard, Pollard&rsquo; every time he would get going.
The former West Indies captain will continue with MI as their batting coach, which can only benefit a team that badly needs a makeover after failing to make the playoffs in the last two years. The 35-year-old will play for MI Emirates, owned by the franchise, in the ILT20 in the UAE. The move has also helped MI gain a big purse when they sit at the IPL auction table in Kochi on December 23, as they launch their quest to find life without their big match-winner.
