New Delhi: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) registered a decisive win in the Rajendra Nagar assembly bypoll with its candidate Durgesh Pathak defeating his nearest rival, Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) Rajesh Bhatia by a margin of nearly 11,500 votes.
The high-voltage campaign for the seat witnessed a series of roadshows by Delhi chief minister and AAP's national convener Arvind Kejriwal and Pathak, which were thronged by huge crowds. Many senior BJP functionaries, including Union ministers, campaigned in support of Bhatia.
Taking a dig at BJP, Kejriwal tweeted in Hindi: "I'm grateful for this immense affection and love of the people of Delhi. This inspires us to work harder and serve them. People defeated BJP's dirty politics and appreciated our good work. Thank you Rajendra Nagar, thank you Delhi #AAPSweepsRajinderNagar." Thanking Kejriwal, MLAelect Pathak told reporters that this was the CM's victory.
