New Delhi: Drumrolls in one corner and the sound of a bugle in another, Kashmiri saffron on one hand and Madhubani artists and weavers working with sikki grass from Bihar on the other, the 41st India International Trade Fair at Pragati Maidan is an amalgamation of the country&rsquo;s diversity under a single roof for yet another year.
This year, with the theme being &ldquo;Vocal for Local, Local to Global&rdquo;, several pavilions have artists who are not only demonstrating their talents live, but are also explaining their respective art to curious visitors.
Sitting outside the Chhattisgarh pavilion was Santosh Nag, a Dokra artist from Bastar, who has been modelling miniature pieces for over 25 years now. &ldquo;Our work is exclusive and different from that of other states. Apart from decorative pieces, people also buy small dokra idols for rituals. Ours is a&nbsp;village of 900 people and we sell the products there, apart from the open market,&rdquo; Nag said.
For many, it was the first time they were exhibiting their products at the trade fair. A native of Bihar, Pushpa Devi, said, &ldquo;The pandemic disrupted our lives. We then took up Madhubani painting. We always knew this art, but never ended up using it for our benefit. Now, there are 14 of us and we make wall hangings, pen stands and even dupattas.&rdquo;
At the fair, visitors were welcomed by a riot of colourful carpets, lampshades, traditional outfits from various states and also products like Tunisian ceramics and decorative pieces made of the onyx stone from Afghanistan.

In a corner, Kanti Prasad, a potter from Uttam Nagar, was seen working quietly on his pottery wheel. Vivekanand Vivek, PRO of ITPO, said, &ldquo;At IITF, special emphasis has been given to the One District, One Product initiative of the government to catalyse MSMEs as well as artisans and craftpersons belonging to rural and semi-rural regions. It will be a great encouragement to local products to have a global appeal and reach.&rdquo;
&ldquo;There are 2,500 stalls, including participation from 14 foreign countries. A number of organisations use this platform to spread awareness about their programmes and policies. IITF 2022 will feature the country&rsquo;s latest export potential in diverse fields, especially&nbsp;when India is celebrating its Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav,&rdquo; added Vivek.
For those who were worried about things being heavy on the pocket, there were various items with a huge range of prices. Madhubani paintings cost between Rs 100 and Rs 10,000, while coasters and mobile stands with Maharashtra&rsquo;s Worli painting are priced between Rs 180 and Rs 455.
Those with a sweet tooth will be particularly attracted to the &ldquo;Swad Ka UP&rdquo; stall at the Uttar Pradesh pavilion.
Amit Chaudhury, in-charge of the stall, said, &ldquo;We have a collection of sweets from various districts of UP. People will not need to look further as we have Thaggu ke laddoo from Kanpur, Fatehpur ka malwa peda, Kunjilal ke namkeen, Dadri kalakand and Maigalganj gulab jamun, among others. All items are within everyone&rsquo;s reach and the response has been good.&rdquo;
