Each player is dealt a random chameleon at the start of the game. Each chameleon consists of either one or two colors. On your turn, you roll the number and the color dice to determine the color and location of a bug to place on the board. Next, you take three actions, choosing from the following the same action can be taken more than once): move a snake of any color, change your color by either selecting one of the chameleons in the display or by drawing from the color deck, wait for more bugs allowing you to place up to three more bugs of a specific color), or move your chameleon to any adjacent space. If a space has a snake on it, you may only move there if you have a matching color on your chameleon. If you move onto a space with bug cubes, you can eat bugs of your color for free. Bugs of a different color must be moved to adjacent spaces.
When you eat a bug, you may claim an objective card from the display to place it on, or place it on one you've already claimed. Each objective requires bugs of certain colors. You must fulfill the list from left to right or right to left and you may have multiple ongoing objective cards at a time. If you cannot place a bug you've just eaten, or choose not to, it goes into your stash. You can have five bugs in your stash at a time. You can also trade two bugs of the same color for a bug of any other color.
